Ashdown is one of the worlds biggest names in bass amplification. They have a huge list of famous users (U2, System of a Down, Radio Head, Jamiroquai - the list goes on & on!), and whats even better is that Ashdown is a British company. The Ashdown Mag 300H head is a semi pro bass head that's ideal for the player who's regularly playing small pubs & clubs. The head will deliver 307 watts into a 4 ohm load (2 separate 8 ohm speaker cabs will give you a 4 ohm load). The pre amp controls are also probably better than you'd expect on an amp of this money. The sub harmonic switch is also a very popular feature on the Ashdown Mag Series amps. The switch kicks in a sub octave effect (it duplicates the bass signal but an octave below the actual signal) that really fattens up the sound. The Mag series cabinets are ideal to go with this head - choose a 2x10 plus a 1x15 for the ideal mid sized portable set up, or maybe a single 4x10 cab for a more funky sound. As with all the Mag series products, the price is outstanding for an amp with these features.

Here's what Ashdown say about the MAG 300H Bass Head

Designed for the busy semi-pro player who doesn't require all the sophisticated tone shaping and connectivity of the ABM range, the MAG range nonetheless delivers classic Ashdown tone all the way.

The MAG 300H head features a potent new fan-cooled 307 watts RMS power section. Rotary bass, middle and treble controls are supplemented by smaller rotary controls providing 15dB of cut and boost at 220Hz and 1.6kHz, providing a comprehensive 5 band EQ section. Additionally, front panel push switches for Bright and Deep settings provide instant access to attacking and warm, rounded sounds respectively and, on the subject of low-end response, the trademark Ashdown sub-harmonic generator is ready and able to deliver truck loads of earth moving tone if called upon. Inputs are provided for active and passive instruments and the front panel also features an effects send and return, a tuner/line output and a balanced DI output for direct connection to a mixing console.
